Slut Shaming

If I were to pick two of the most ridiculously dumbfuck inventions of the civilised society, I would pick: Selfies & Slut-shaming.

Selfie is an ultra-modern millennial’s phenomenon - Slut-shaming, au-contraire, has survived millenniums.

But it wasn’t before a bunch of geniuses created ‘God & Religion’ that slut-shaming became the rage it is today.

Believe it or not, there was a time when men didn’t know that women are their exclusive property. There was a time when men didn’t treat women like their pretty underwear, which only they can wear whenever the hell they wanted to. Men thought of women as trees - they sat under their shade; they ate their fruit but didn’t feel dishonoured when someone else did too. There was a time when no one owned or tore down trees that gave us life.

Those days were about 12 thousand years ago. This was when people weren’t aware of science & were yet to invent God. Men believed the entire clan was the father of the kid born out of a woman. No one married & no one exclusively made love to one person. This was absolutely normal for men & women. There was no slut-shaming as sleeping with multiple men wasn’t considered good or bad - it was what it was. Having sex was the most normal thing humans did.

Then came the agricultural revolution [circa 10,000 bc] in human history; we stopped moving around too much. We settled in at one place for years. We began possessing things. And we began liking possessing things. At some point in time, we developed an insatiable desire to possess humans. The most time-effective way to control another human is through fear. The most effective process to forge fear is known as - myth-making. Unlike any other species, humans exclusively hold sway in this realm.

As agriculture became the mainstream profession, humans got permanently domesticated. And women got even more domesticated as they had to give birth to more babies as more hands were needed in the wheat fields. And human babies, unlike other species, take years of round-the-clock care. Women were naturally more adept at raising a child, so they took up household responsibilities & men ventured outdoors. This inadvertently gave men more power as time went on. Money & Marriage were created about 5000 years ago to consolidate man’s stranglehold.

As men were undisputed front-runners in myth-making, they ensured whatever they made up was in their favour. To ensure their women didn’t go around seeking other men; they brainwashed them into believing that sleeping with one man is what the Lord wants. Of course, the Lord wasn’t real, but humans don’t use intelligence, they believe anything that upholds the belief that Homo sapiens are the most superior species. So they believed in God as the myth-makers proclaimed that God created Earth & Humans above all the planets & species. 

Man’s greatest success was when he made women believe that their bodies were ‘pure’ & remaining ‘virgin’ till they wed was their ultimate virtue. Once women began believing this hogwash, it’s literally been on auto-pilot. Of course, there are always deviants. Those deviants are dangerous to the ‘empire of lies.’ To ensure these deviant women don’t break the spell men had cast, slut-shaming was invented. They condemned every woman who broke the ‘code’ & banged anyone who wasn’t their husband. But men are ‘lazy smart’ people. They wanted slut-shaming to be outsourced to women themselves. That’s when they began hard-wiring women to slut-shame their own clan. Once the hard work of propagating this message was done, it has been a cake walk. 

No wonder when Islam was dreamed up by the hallucinating wizard - Mohammad in the 7th century, he and his bhakts (cronies) knew they had to go one up to upstage the super popular - Christianity. They went on to spread a myth that Allah wants women to be covered tip-to-toe in a black cloth. Any deviance will lead to disgrace - not only for the woman but for everyone associated with that woman.

With all these irresistible religions spreading across the human habitat, women were reduced to men’s on-call sex mates, baby makers, and house-keepers.

Let’s fast-forward thousands of years.

The thriving, world-wide business of slut-shaming in 2018 isn’t run by men; they’ve outsourced all the franchises to women. A girl’s DNA has been modified to self-slut-shame. Women slut-shame themselves, other women, feel guilty {sooner or later} when they sleep with anyone who isn’t their serious boyfriend or husband. I know what you’re thinking - men continue to slut-shame women. I know, but that has no true relevance unless it’s backed by women slut-shaming themselves or paying heed to what men think.

Let’s test my theory out: If the father slut-shames his daughter for being sexually active with her boyfriend, the mother can simply shrug & repartee, ‘If she ain’t going to have sex now, then when will she - after marriage? Ha!’ Or ‘If I can marry a total stranger & let him have sex with me on the first night, why can’t my daughter make love to her boyfriend.’

If the boys slut-shame a girl at school, college, anywhere, all the other girls should boycott those boys - never touch them ever. The boys will be horrified & immediately pledge never to slut-shame anyone. Yes, boys may like slut-shaming, but no boy wants to trade slut-shaming privileges for never getting laid privileges - ever.

Now that we have a dash of perspective, doesn’t it feel totally ridiculous that we’re fighting a perpetually losing battle for gender equality in the 21st century when it was already the norm thousands of years ago. Doesn’t it feel moronic to shame a girl for having sex when having sex is the reason we were all born. {back off, test tube babies}

Each time we take a selfie, we lose a handful of brains cells, but every time we slut-shame someone, we diminish as human beings.

If women are to wait for the men to change, they will be waiting forever. Men are unapologetically practical animals who care more about booze & boobs than emotions. The onus to abolish slut-shaming is on women themselves.

When you slut-shame another girl, it defines you & more than you it ends up defining that girl you slut-shamed. 

Slut-shaming has been married to our souls forever. Maybe it is time we filed for divorce.
