Is England Cricketer ‘Ollie Robinson’ — Sexist, Racist & Islamophobic?
2nd June morning was the greatest day of Ollie Robinson’s career. He debuted for England in a Test match.
2nd June evening turned out to be a bloody nightmare for Ollie Robinson’s career.
A series of —allegedly— sexist, racist & Islamophobic tweets were exhumed back from the dead that Robinson had posted 9 years ago in 2012. He was 18-years-old then — Remember that.
Robinson, instantly, gave an unreserved apology, where he said he is deeply ‘embarrassed & ashamed’. He went on to say how he has changed for the better over the years & will continue to educate himself.
I know what the cynics would say — He had no choice but to give an unreserved apology. I’m also a cynical cunt, so I totally get it.
Let’s put Robinson’s words — I’ve changed for the better — through an acid test.
In 2014, Robinson was sacked by his county team Yorkshire for ‘unprofessional conduct’. This shows Robinson wasn’t just an ass on the internet, he was also an ass in real life. The ‘sack’ was the turning point in Robinson’s life & career.
In the last 7 years, Robinson, instead of being an ass, has worked his ass off & resurrected his career. He has been an amazing success at Sussex since joining them in 2015. And he performed par excellence on his debut for England.
From tweeting nonsense to getting dumped by Yorkshire to excelling with Sussex and making it to the highest stage of cricket & playing for England in a Test match. Robinson’s rollercoaster is a testament to the major turn-around over the last 7 years.
Verdict: Robinson’s words that he has changed hold true.
Let’s go back to the tweets. Are they really as terrible as liberals are making them out to be?
1. “My new muslim friend is the bomb #wheeyyyyy.”
2. “wonder if Asian people put smileys like this ╎)
3. “females who play video games actually tend to have more sex”
4. “Not going to lie — a lot of girls need to learn the art of class”
They don’t look good in the current climate, but that’s the kind of nonsense teenagers spew. It doesn’t make Robinson racist or sexist, it makes him an asshole. And I’m not even sure if he was being a true asshole. The first 2 tweets are super unoriginal & the last two hold an unfavorable generalized opinion, not sexism. But I will refrain from giving my judgment on the tweets as I don’t get offended easily like liberals — oddly, I always believed I’m a liberal. Now, I’m really confused as I’m still a liberal but can’t identify with modern liberals aka snowflakes who get off on Cancel Culture & Virtue Signalling.
There was one more tweet —whose full text hasn’t been revealed—that had the dreaded N-word. It baffles me how the N-word becomes the most offensive word ever when a White person uses it, but turns into a term of endearment when a Black person says it. It’s ridiculous that Black people keep telling everyone that they’re same as White people & in the same breath, hypocritically claim that they can use the N-word because they’re black. For fucks sake, Get Real. You can’t have it both ways.
I’m a brown Asian with dark eyes & chunky brows.
Robinson or anyone can tweet “All asians are Mama’s boys or snake-charmers or filthy basterds who wipe their asses with their hands”. I won’t be offended by those insane claims because it’s crystal to me that what they’re gobbledygook-horseshit. I can’t get offended by something a hormonal teenager typed. In a world of social media where millions of tweets are posted each minute, I will lose my sanity if I were to get my panties in a bunch every time someone said something not nice.
I’ve also heard the awful argument that White people should refrain from giving their opinion on this topic unless they support Robinson’s suspension from international cricket.
I gotta say it’s bullshit that Whites can’t say Robinson’s suspension is unfair or ridiculous because of the color of their skin.
When UK PM, White Boy, Boris Johnson remarked that Robinson's suspension was ‘Over the Top’, liberals shouted that the PM shouldn’t interfere as he’s a politician, not a sportsman.
Is it that liberals don’t like government interference or they don’t like that PM didn’t support the suspension?
Case in Point: Football’s Breakaway Rebel ‘Super League’
White Boy Boris Johnson had openly condemned the Super League. Everyone hearted ❤️ PM on social media, including the liberals who are now yelling at him to shut the hell up.
The trouble isn’t who is giving an opinion, trouble is if those people are giving an opinion that differs from your views.
In the aftermath of the shitstorm #RobinsonGate, England’s cricketing legend, Jimmy Anderson, deleted his 2010 tweet [Anderson was 28-years-old then]. The tweet read “I saw Broady’s new haircut for the first time today. Not sure about it. Thought he looked like a 15-year-old lesbian!”
The fact that Anderson felt compelled to delete his tweet —after 11 years— is a perfect metaphor for the society we live in. Barring woke liberals & humor-dead lesbians, every human can see that this is a harmless & humorous tweet/banter between 2 really close friends — Stuart Broad & Jimmy Anderson.
Final Word
As I write this letter, Robinson has been indefinitely suspended from International cricket pending investigation. Firstly, whatever investigation needs to be done must be done fairly & at FedEx speed. If nothing concrete or damning is found, lift the international ban immediately.
Are you saying, we all should forget about what he said like it never happened?
Nope.
Give him community service — make him the poster boy for the inclusivity drive. The way forward isn’t to shame, cancel & blacklist him from cricket & real world, the way forward is to keep educating him & let him become the guiding light of change.
Any ban, apart from a minor 1-2 match, will be ridiculous.
Why?
Because when we are 18, we are fucking idiots. Robinson can’t be judged for nonsense tweets almost a decade ago, the same way Adolf Hitler can’t be remembered in History as a brilliant upcoming artist that Hitler was when he was 18. Valmiki was a dacoit in his flamboyant youth, but he transformed & wrote what we know as — Holy Ramayana!
Never judge a person’s character by who they were yesterday, but who they are now.
If we can’t give people second chances, then we don’t deserve freedom of speech because we’re hypocritical sadists who love to see someone get destroyed — someone who has worked his ass off for almost 2 decades to finally wear the colors of his country in the highest form of Cricket.
